In honour of the innocent lives & blood spilled by men.

I am deeply saddened by the state of our world. It is disheartening that humans in positions of power and influence worldwide choose to remain silent and ignore the suffering of those in Gaza. The people in Gaza endure appalling living conditions daily and constantly face uncertainty in their lives. They live from day to day, never knowing if a loved one or a child will survive. They are reduced to living like animals, forced to beg for food and live in constant fear of death. Daily pain and trauma are their reality.

I’m appalled that hearts are seared—scorched, red blazing & dead.

So much so, humans allow innocent children, women, civilians and the less privileged to endure such immense suffering.

The images coming from Gaza are difficult to bear. Children starving—bones protruding, with heads barely hanging on. Yet powerful men are determined to let the horror continue.

How can this be acceptable in the 21st century?

The poor families living in these deplorable conditions are also human beings.

They didn’t choose the country they were born in.

They didn’t choose the circumstances that have led to this war. These civilians have nothing to do with the events that have turned their lives upside down, nor with the terror that will haunt generations for decades.

We are witnessing a repeat of history. If genocide is defined as the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, then I’m inclined to believe that choosing to deny human beings food and making them homeless without the necessities—food, water, and shelter—in this case, the Palestinians, equals genocide.

Choosing to deny children their human rights to attend school, have a home to sleep in, and access hospitals for their health needs equals deliberately exterminating generations. The dehumanisation and mass suffering of these civilians bear a striking resemblance to the atrocities committed during the Holocaust.

If the world agrees that the Holocaust was a crime, why is it happening again in the 21st century?

Why do those in power permit the dehumanisation of human beings on such a large scale? Does the Palestinian race make them expendable?

Currently, the focus is on the Palestinian people, but what other race could become the next target?

What is even more troubling is that a nation, led by a man who should understand the extent of this injustice, is responsible for cutting short the lives of human beings—especially young children. I wonder what causes a man to become so emotionally hardened.

The innocent human beings dying of starvation in Gaza did not kidnap anyone.

The mothers burying their children in unmarked graves did not kidnap anyone, neither do they have the power to start a war.

They are the innocent victims of the war powerful men instigate.

The African proverb ‘When the elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers’ captures this misery.

As there innocent blood spills, I hope it hunts those responsible for their untimely death.

I stand with these families mourning.

I empathise with your suffering.

No justice on earth would ease your horror. But I hope, someone would be held accountable.

I see you!

However, regardless of your side, I empathise with those who have lost a loved one. A loss of life will always be a loss of life.

Nun River Pages, I share your beautifully expressed sentiments about this unfolding horror. May the people of Gaza find peace and stability and may those repsponsible for this brutality be brought to justice soon.
